KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and India are in the final stages of negotiations on an agreement to bring in Indian workers and the minimum wages to be paid to them, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam.
“We have given our views on the agreement to India and it is expected to be concluded soon,” he told reporters after opening a food and fun fair held by the Temple of Fine Arts yesterday to finance the construction of a six-storey building in Brickfields.
“It is our responsibility to ensure that the foreign workers are treated fairly,” he said, adding that the ministry would look into complaints about the working conditions of foreign workers.
Earlier, Subramaniam said the Indian non-governmental organisations and the politicians should work together to unite the Indian community in the country.
