Advise foreign workers on safety, says police

By HAMDAN RAJA ABDULLAH

MUAR: Employers of foreign workers here have been urged to educate their employees on security-related matters to protect them from falling prey to roadside robbers or snatch thieves.

Muar police chief Asst Comm Mohammad Nasir Ramli said police had repeatedly warned the public on such matters but he believed the advice did not reach this group of people.

He said he now urged all employers to advise their workers on safe measures when withdrawing cash from the banks or ATM machines to avoid being robbed.

He issue this advice after a Bangladeshi worker was robbed of RM300 shortly after he withdrew the cash from an ATM machine here at about 4.40pm on Sunday.

Seven youths, including students, waylaid the foreigner and robbed him of the cash but two policemen who happened to be nearby managed to arrest two of them, he told reporters at his office on Monday.

ACP Mohammad Nasir said the two arrested were secondary school students and lived near Bukit Pasir. Police are now looking for their accomplices who managed to escape arrest.
